Walk along the front at Cannes - called the Croisette - and you'll see all the beautiful people, lovely restaurants and beautiful hotels but behind the facade most of Cannes is a bit of a tip! The film festival is great for people watchers in May/June! The Carlton on the Croisette is THE place to stay! The beach is sand and mostly owned by the hotels with some good restaurants - not as pricey as you would imagine. There is a bit of Public Beach.
