Direct Travel
Insurance - Avoid!
My wife, Jill, was diagnosed with breast cancer on
August 29, 2008. We had our holiday booked for September 8 so I asked
Direct Travel Insurance for a claim form.
The form arrived from AIG around September 3. AIG are
the company Direct Travel use to process their claims. It had four
pages of A4. Three to be filled in by me and one by Jill's doctor. OK
so far. After lot's of ink and £25 for the doctor, I returned
the forms a couple of days later.
The form signed by the doctor stated that Jill had a hospital
appointment for the day we were due to fly. Despite this, AIG continued
to turn awful into horror.
After about three weeks a letter arrived from AIG asking for the
tickets. They knew we were flying with JET2.com, which is a ticketless
airline but AIG appeared to have forgotten. I reminded them.
Jill had, had two operations while AIG prevaricated.
I felt they were trying to make life so difficult that I would abandon
the claim.
Two weeks later they sent a letter saying they needed a 'No Show'
confirmation from the airline. I replied, doubting that Jet2.com would
send me this if they wouldn't send me a ticket but to my amazement they
did... for the small sum of £15!
Finally some two months later, after awful hassle, filling in multiple
forms, and paying £40 which they would not refund, AIG sent
me a cheque for £140.05!
Compare This:
We had our house burgled last December. Lost about
£2000 of stuff. We were insured with SAGA.
Brilliant! No hassle. We had to produce evidence but they replaced what
we had lost within the month. Thank you SAGA.
Insuring everything with you now!
